Choosing Peace - Four Simple Reminders

tool of the week - choosing peace: Four simple reminders

I’ve been thinking about peace so much lately. Maybe because I lacked it for a moment, or perhaps because so many are in the same state, or it’s the holidays—whatever the reason, I thought we should chat about peace. Peace is something so many a seeking, but they struggle to realize it has nothing to do with the outside world. Peace is all about the inside world—the inner you.

With the holidays here, the quaint parties, family time, the moments, tension, financial burden, the hustle and bustle, trying to keep everyone happy and yourself sane, all the things quickly shake your peace.

So, how can you find center during a not-so-peaceful time?

The answers come as reminders for this week’s Tool of the Week! Peace is a choice. Here are four simple reminders to help remind you of this truth!

Reminder 1: Don’t Push So Hard. It’s hard to slow down in the busiest time of the year. Yet, if you are tired, rest. Take time to enjoy your moments and experiences. Pushing through the chaos in an exhausted state doesn’t provide peace. What do you need? Allow yourself to have and experience small victories. Because in the end, what will remain are the memories. What kind of peaceful memories do you want to create?

Reminder 2: Don’t Plan So Much. Keep everything to a minimum if that is what you need. You don’t have to do everything and be in all the places. Peace is found in the center of a calm heart.

Reminder 3: Don’t Go For Perfect. Remember, life isn’t perfect. Don’t let your experiences die in unsettled discontentment because they are imperfect. If you want rigid perfection, you will always lose.

Reminder 4: Don’t Forget the Purpose. Keep your priorities in check this holiday season. Make sure you are intentional with your why and seek peace through this mindset and thought pattern.

Peace is a journey. When you find yourself overextending yourself, slow down. Give yourself space. Ask yourself my standard four questions:  What do I want? What do I need? How do I want to feel? How will I get there? There are many ways to find peace. Think of inner peace as a light that shines from the very core of who you are. Use these simple reminders as guides for the holiday season.
